MTSU wants sip of herbal tea benefits

University, Chinese team venture to unlock secrets of plants, develop pills

The many benefits of tea, Green tea in particular, have garnered much media attention recently. Now, a team of Chinese scientists are looking to unravel the secrets behind tea and encapsulate them in pill form.

My reaction? MIxed.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for the invigorating effects of green tea to be spread to all corners of the earth. If you're going to accomplish this using a pill, so be it.

In fact, a Green tea 'pill' could be very convenient for a lot of folks. Got a whole day booked and no time for tea? Pop a Matcha RX and stay on the fly!
Obviously, this would have a huge appeal in the West.

The only thing that irks me is the thought of tea being associated with medicine. If this new pill will be just a supplement, perfect.

But let's keep it that way. Let's face it, if too many people turn to their pills instead of tea to get them started in the morning, the tea industry itself could take a big hit..

For now, I'll stick with my puerh looseleaf and save the pills for when I have a major, debilitating illness. I'm talking 'cant-get-out-of-bed-kill-me-now' type illness.. Hmmm, that sounds like the fever I had last week... Godspeed, MTSU! ;P
