Green tea abolishes bad breath, say scientists | Mail Online

Green tea's status as a 'superfood' grows: A study finds it even abolishes bad breath (it already helps prevent cancer and heart disease)

Yet *another* study on the benefits of Green Tea. This time, researchers praise the tea's ability to combat halitosis, or bad breath.

I'll admit, when I first started drinking Green tea I had no idea it helped with this. But I guess it's just another nice little side benefit that our Green tea provides.

I'm almost a little miffed at the amount of media attention Green tea receives. As an avid drinker of green, black, and oolong teas, I can attest to the health benefits of the latter two as well.

I wish they would receive even half the media attention green tea gets, as these teas really are good for the heart (literally!) and soul, with proven medical benefits.

But perhaps I'm just being picky. What ever gets folk drinking tea in greater numbers is a net win. As for me, I'm going to brew some oolong.

Green Tea is a very popular Oriental Tea . Check out my mini-blog for updates on the Green tea scene in Japan.

University, Chinese team venture to unlock secrets of plants, develop pills

The many benefits of tea, Green tea in particular, have garnered much media attention recently. Now, a team of Chinese scientists are looking to unravel the secrets behind tea and encapsulate them in pill form.

My reaction? MIxed.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for the invigorating effects of green tea to be spread to all corners of the earth. If you're going to accomplish this using a pill, so be it.

In fact, a Green tea 'pill' could be very convenient for a lot of folks. Got a whole day booked and no time for tea? Pop a Matcha RX and stay on the fly!
Obviously, this would have a huge appeal in the West.

The only thing that irks me is the thought of tea being associated with medicine. If this new pill will be just a supplement, perfect.

But let's keep it that way. Let's face it, if too many people turn to their pills instead of tea to get them started in the morning, the tea industry itself could take a big hit..

For now, I'll stick with my puerh looseleaf and save the pills for when I have a major, debilitating illness. I'm talking 'cant-get-out-of-bed-kill-me-now' type illness.. Hmmm, that sounds like the fever I had last week... Godspeed, MTSU! ;P

Expert: Black tea has many health benefits

Expert: Black tea has many health benefits

upi.com

This article, I'll admit was a bit of a surprise. With Green tea being the so-called 'media darling', it was refreshing to see a post extolling the benefits of black tea.

Oh yes, it has benefits. And they're not the same as Green tea, either.

The article states that Black tea, in addition to lowering blood pressure, is a natural source of fluoride. You know, the paste they stuff in your mouth in the dentists? :P Due to this, Black tea can actually help prevent plaque build-up and
strengthen tooth enamel.

Just go easy on the sugar, and Black tea can actually help clean your teeth. Amazing, maybe i'll start downing some Earl Grey instead of brushing in the morning..

Just kidding :P

As always, see OrientalTea.org to learn about all the types of black tea and how they can help your pearly whites.

Put a lid on it and get boilin'!

Should WiFi die so that tea can live? - T Ching

When the culture of tea plugs into the lives we lead today with our always switched-on collection of gadgetry, is the tea drinking experience enhanced or marginalized?

This article makes a very interesting point. With WiFi, come the addition of internet access and laptops to our favorite venues. This is a good thing in general, and provides more freedom.

But what happens when our beloved tea houses are filled with the glow of laptop screens?

Because of the range of options the internet gives us, it is very tempting to go from a simple, relaxing activity ( reading about tea :) ) to something more stressful, such as checking the stock market. Suddenly, we are drinking our tea not to help us relax, but to focus on the endless amount of activities the internet give us.

For me, I have always viewed tea houses as a place to relax and unwind, not to get serious work done. I understand this is not the case for many. Yet, many people come to tea houses not just for the tea, but the atmosphere, the *vibe*, the place gives us. With the addition of wi-fi, I fear more of our tea houses will feel more like sitting in a Starbucks than a place of relaxation and peacefulness.

It would be a shame if all our rustic, internet-free tea houses were to disappear. Let's put them on the endangered species list, for the sake of our tea! :)
